Learn how to make calls with Google Home totally free of charge.
Did you know that you can reach most phone numbers in the United States and Canada for free through your Google Home smart speaker? If you don’t know how to make calls with Google Home, here we explain in detail how you can set up your device.
The future is here and it’s smart. We rely on our smart assistants for just about everything, like keeping up-to-date contact lists, setting timers, or answering questions. They’re connected to everything from lights to locks to TVs. And to make calls, all it takes is a few quick commands.
Readiness
Before setting up hands-free calling, you need a Google Home speaker. Once you’ve set up your Google Home, you can start making business calls immediately, without any further setup. However, calling your personal contacts requires a little more effort.
Synchronize your contacts
Whether you have an Android or iOS device, the first step is to activate your personal Results in the Google Home app.
Repeat this process for each Google Home device you want to connect to your contacts.
The next step is to sync your cell phone contacts with your Google Home. All your Google contacts are available, but to call them from your device you must sync them with your Google Home. This step is different, depending on whether you are using an Android or iOS device.
Android
It may take a few minutes for your contacts to become available on your Google Home while they are syncing with your device.
iOS
One way to sync contacts from your device to your Google Home is with your Google Assistant.
You can also sync your contacts manually using the Google Home app.
Google Contacts
If you don’t want to use Google Assistant, you can change the default contact account on your mobile device to create new contacts as Google Contacts.
If you have not added a Gmail account on your mobile device:
If you already have a Gmail account on your mobile device:
It may take a few minutes for your contacts to become available on your Google Home while they sync with your device.
Caller ID
One option, regardless of the type of mobile device you use, is to display your Project Fi or Google Voice number on outgoing calls. This only works if you have a Project Fi or Google Voice account and is available for US calls only.
If you do not have a Project Fi or Google Voice number, or choose not to display it, your outbound calls will use an unlisted number. Recipients of your calls will see something similar to “Private” or “Anonymous” as the caller ID.
Make a call
To make a call using your Google Home, say “Hello Google”, then say a command. You can call by business name, contact in your contact list, or by a number. If you call by saying the name of a contact, you must activate Personal Results and give access to the contacts on your device. Another option is to ask for the nearest business and then say “Call them”.
Ending a call
Ending a call on your Google Home is quite easy. You have two options: you can tap on the top of Google Home or say “Hello Google, stop/disconnect/end call/hang up”. Even if the recipient ends the call, you will hear the ending tone until you end the call.
