What is Share Play

PS5 and PS4 consoles have a feature called “Share Play”, which roughly speaking, allows you to stream a video game to another player’s console. With Share Play you can show your game session to another user who is on your friends list and also, invite them to play in your game, literally taking control of the game.

With Share Play a user with a PlayStation 5 can invite another user with a PlayStation 4 to play titles like Returnal or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which in a nutshell, is equivalent to playing PS5 on a PS4. Of course, the function has some limitations, such as the fact that the game session can only last for one hour (it should be noted that there is no limited number of sessions) and that the graphic quality will depend largely on the speed and stability of the users’ connection, mainly that of the one transmitting the game. Also, to make use of Share Play it is necessary for both players to have a PlayStation Plus membership.

Remember that to make use of the Share Play function so that your friend can stream a PS5 game to your PS4, it is necessary that both players have a PS Plus membership and that the internet connection of both players is stable and of good speed. Sony recommends a minimum of 2 Mbps upload, however, about 5 Mbps will make the experience enjoyable and not pure frustration.

Done, you can now enjoy the desired but scarce PlayStation 5 experience on your PlayStation 4. Remember that each Share Play session is limited to 60 minutes, but you will be able to create a new session immediately after the previous one is finished.
