Galaxy S10e vs. iPhone XR: they still have a lot to offer

Samsung’s range of phones is always something to highlight, but this time we will talk about the Galaxy S10e, which after its launch in early 2019, still has much to offer. This one comes with the same power and beautiful design as the other S10 models, but with a modest price from $599.99 with 128GB. If you’re looking for a good phone for a little less money, then you should consider the Samsung Galaxy S10e. However, Samsung is not the first to present the idea of a cheaper model, as the iPhone XR is the way Apple offers great power in a lower cost package. With a starting price of $549.99 with 128GB, it’s inevitable that these two phones will go hand in hand, but which one should you choose? We compared the Galaxy S10e vs. iPhone XR to help you decide.

Specifications

Performance, battery life and charging

You’ll find equally powerful hardware in these two phones. The iPhone XR uses Apple’s A12 Bionic Core, and is a powerful chip. The Snapdragon 855 chip in Qualcomm’s Samsung Galaxy S10e is fast and efficient.

The battery size is similar, although the S10e’s is a little larger, but both phones should run through a full day fairly easily. Both have wireless charging capabilities, and fast cable charging, but only the S10e comes with a fast charger included in the box. The iPhone XR, like all Apple phones, only comes with a 5W charger, so you’ll need to spend more if you want to take advantage of this feature.

Because of its similarities it is difficult to declare a winner. Both phones have good power, both in performance and battery. Let’s declare a tie for the moment.

**Winner: Tie

Design and resistance

The design of iPhone XR is bright and colorful; it feels great in your hand, and the aluminum body is solid and secure. The S10e is a little smaller, but thanks to the Infinity-O screen with camera perforation, it allows for an incredible 93.1 percent screen-to-body ratio. The design of the iPhone XR is nice, but the notch continues to divide opinion, and many believe that Samsung’s hole-punch display creates a better display experience. Samsung also includes a headphone port, and finds room for a MicroSD card to expand storage.

In terms of physical durability, both phones have their limits due to the glass structures. You’ll definitely need a protective case. However, the S10e has an advantage in water resistance, as its IP68 rating exceeds the IP67 rating of the iPhone XR.

Declaring a winner in the design category is always difficult, as much of it is based on personal preferences of the buyer. We love the front of the S10e, but at the same time we believe that the rear design of the iPhone XR is the more striking of the two phones, so it has a slight advantage.

**Winner: iPhone XR

Screen

Apple introduces its LCD Liquid Retina Display technology on the iPhone XR, and it is a beautiful display, but it is not comparable to most OLED displays in terms of vivid colors and deep blacks. At 6.1 inches, it is also large in size, although the resolution is disappointingly limited for a phone of its price.

For its part, the screens of the range S10 Samsung are excellent. The S10e uses Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED technology, and offers incredible color accuracy, a sharper image, and comes with HDR10 Plus certification, in addition to eliminating the annoying notch.

**Winner: Samsung Galaxy S10e

Camera

The Apple phone has an excellent camera. It has a single 12-megapixel lens with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an aperture of f / 1.8, but produces strong images in a variety of lights. Particularly impressive is its ability to take pictures in portrait mode with a single lens, in addition to having the 7 megapixel TrueDepth Selfies lens, which is the same one you’ll find in the rest of the XS range.

The S10e’s camera is also a great performer. You’ll find two lenses on the back: a 12-megapixel primary lens with optical image stabilization and a variable aperture of f / 1.5 or f / 2.4. The secondary camera is a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens with a field of view of 123 degrees and an aperture of f/2.2. I.A. scene optimization is included, along with software that suggests easy ways to improve the shot. On the front it has a 10 megapixel lens, which is also capable of capturing 4K video.

**Winner: Tie

Software and updates

You will find the Android 9.0 Foot version on the S10e and the iOS 12 on the iPhone XR. Android vs. iOS will always be a matter of personal preference and in any case, there are not many differences between these two phones.

However, there is a big difference between the speed of the updates. Updating Samsung on your cell phones can take some time. As Apple makes and distributes its iOS, iPhone phones will receive updates from day one. Apple also supports its devices for longer.

Special Features

Both cell phones are equipped with a number of special functions and features. Apple has removed the fingerprint sensor from the iPhone X, which has been replaced by Face ID. It’s fast and secure, and it also powers many of Apple’s other features, such as Animoji and Memoji AR. Gesture navigation is excellent and is accompanied by all the usual iOS elements, such as Siri. Unfortunately, it does not have 3D Touch.

The S10e has similar features, so you will find AR Emojis and facial recognition software. However, it is not as secure as Apple’s Face ID, so you will need the side fingerprint scanner as a biometric login. But with that exception, Samsung has more features, with Wi-Fi 6, more Bixby options and Google Assistant, the desktop Dex mode and Wireless PowerShare, which allows your phone to wirelessly charge other Qi enabled devices. However, some of these features may vary in utility, and the iPhone Memoji are definitely better than the AR Emojis, so we are leaving this as a draw.

**Winner: Tie

Availability and price

The iPhone XR is currently available from most carriers, and prices are around $500 for the 128GB model. The Samsung Galaxy S10e can currently be found at a price of $599.99 for the 128GB model.

**Winner: iPhone XR

Conclusion

After comparing them, it is impossible to declare an absolute winner. The Samsung Galaxy S10e is sensational, but the iPhone XR also has what it takes to stay on top. It’s certainly a close race.

The iPhone XR is a great value phone, thanks to its powerful hardware and colorful design. But if you’re not committed to the Apple ecosystem and operating system, the Galaxy S10e is an excellent alternative.
